Why ceramics?
My art medium of choice is clay. To say I’m obsessed with it is an understatement. It’s one of the oldest artforms, it’s remnants survive past the civilizations that have created, and is still widely popular to this day. It’s used daily by everyday people and it leaves the most prestigious and informed critics gawking at all it can do in a gallery. The variety offered by glaze still surprises me to this day. It fascinates me that two ceramic forms could be identical in form, but be made completely unique by a glaze firing. the chemicals and ranges of glazes has me just as in awe as the organic forms clay can give.
Because of this, and so much more, I use it rather frequently. Whether in craft work or in gallery worthy sculptures, it allows me to share the joy of creative expression to a wide audience. The experimentation within the glazing process is also very important part of my work.
